In 1968, the women of First Presbyterian Church established a thrift shop known as the Bargain Box. It was, and remains, dedicated to providing families of Garland County with clean and usable items of clothing and housewares at affordable prices. The proceeds of all sales remain in Garland County and are used to assist families in need of essential items and to assist various county agencies that provide similar assistance.
Local ministries that receive assistance from the Bargain Box include:
• numerous family assists (food, energy, rent, water)
• the "Winter Coats for Kids" drive
• Garland County Habitat for Humanity
• Jackson House
• Charitable Christian Medical Clinic
• Samaritan Ministries
• The Master's Table
• the Literacy Council of Garland County
• student support for the Arkansas School for Mathematics, Science, and the Arts
• The Caring Place
and numerous others.
Donations to the Bargain Box may be made Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Donations of jewelry, clothes, housewares, decorating items, books, toys, and any other usable items are accepted and are tax deductible. Free pick-up service is available by calling 501 760 2329 or 501 767 5844.
